Bunyip Equestrian Club Inc

Bunyip Equestrian Club was formed to provide a nurturing, encouraging learning opportunity for adult riders of all levels. BEC's President, Nicci Foster and Secretary, Kylie Griffiths had been searching for the right fit in an HRCAV affiliated club for some time. As the searches continued to prove unsuccessful the idea of forming their own club was brought up. Initially it was laughed off but when they discovered that their beloved ex-Pony Club grounds were currently without an Adult Riding Club it began to turn from idea, to concept to actual club.

Bunyip Equestrian Club Mission Statement

The purpose of the Bunyip Equestrian Club is to provide a nurturing environment of learning, building confidence and opportunity.  With camaraderie, support and friendship as foundation blocks of the club, BEC was established to encourage those who have lost confidence to try something new, and for those with experience to have an opportunity to compete at the highest HRCAV levels flying our proud club colours.

BEC is for those who enjoy riding and who wish to benefit from a club environment that has each rider’s best interests at heart.  BEC is to provide an Adult Riding Club for those in Bunyip and surrounds that wish to participate in a forward thinking, friendly club that has no interest in discriminating based on equipment, breed of horse, skill or ability of rider.  BEC is a club for all riders, horse breeds and disciplines to come together and learn in an encouraging environment.

Home Grounds - Pound Road Reserve

BEC's home ground is the brilliant Pound Rd Reserve which we share with both Bunyip and Lillico Pony Clubs. The grounds boast some wonderful facilities with a full size 5 grade Cross Country Course, huge sand arena, grass arena, open fields for competition rings and two fabulous show jumping areas as well as yards, horse wash bays, wonderful club rooms and heaps of parking. There are plans to further improve these grounds and we believe when this is complete, Pound Road Reserve will be a premier venue for both HRCAV and PCAV competitions.

***** News we can report: A MASSIVE 140m x 60m arena will start construction soon giving all user groups of the reserve an amazing asset. Photos will be uploaded showing progress!! **********

Curriculum

Bunyip Equestrian Club is dedicated to having as varied a curiculum as possible, with guest and specialist instructors invited to demonstrate equestrian sports from Show Preparation to Western Pleasure, from Horsemanship to high levels of Dressage. We are also dedicated to having trail rides, beach rides and camps to assist with encouraging, bonding and trust between horse and rider and club members. Those members who have outside HRCAV interests are encouraged to show their peers what they can do in their chosen sport and all members are encouraged to try new things.

BEC's main focus of competition however is the Top Teams Trophy disciplines including Dressage, Show Jumping, Horse Trials, Showing and Navigation Rides. We hope to field a team to each of these fabulous competitions and around the time of the competitions we will invite a specialist from each field to assist with preparation, fitness, presentation and valuable advice. Every member of BEC will have an opportunity to compete and all members are equal when it comes to selecting a team to represent us.

BEC is also very proud to offer horsemanship as a focus at the club, especially at rallies and would like to explain the definition of horsemanship to future members who may feel concerned about this. Horsemanship at BEC refers to building confidence, trust, respect and a better level of control with your horse. This is done through learning more efficient ways to work with your horse both on the ground and in the saddle. There are no carrot sticks, no fancy tricks, just simple, common sense, SAFE, tips on getting more out of your combination. In no way are we teaching anything like the Parelli method and anyone confused about the horsemanship side of BEC should email Nicci here. All horsemanship at BEC is focused around the HRCAV disicplines of Dressage, Showing, Jumping and Navigation Rides.

Most of all if you have love a particular equine sport then you will be catered for, no matter what it is.

Our Members

At BEC you wont find a typical member, a typical breed ridden or typical equipment used. From the 'nervous nellies' to the try-anything-once riders, BEC caters for everyone.

Purple Group: Purple Group was a concept to assist the lower level riders and first time club goers to feel relaxed, protected and nurtured in their learning. So, instead of constantly telling their instructor they "can't" or "wont" try something, they wear a Purple armband. This tells the instructor, the other members and visitors that these riders are to be taken slowly, are not to be cantered near and not pushed. It is amazing when you only work on positive reinforcement how quickly people gain confidence. We have seen ladies near physical illness at the thought of getting on their horse in front of someone and then, that same person riding out of Purple Group with the biggest smile on their face. THAT is what it is all about. We hope to see our Purple Group having less and less members as we go along.

Novice Group: The Novice Group is for people on young horses, people who are slowly gathering confidence with their combination and HRCAV riders assessed at levels 4 & 3. These riders have lower level Dressage lessons, learn more advanced Horsemanship principles to assist their riding and jump up to Level 3 height. This group is often our most varied, with riders who have vast experience bringing young horses up through the ranks as well as riders with little experience, taking a schoolmaster to rallies to gain knowledge. We have an exciting group of riders in our Novice group from western, hunting, trail and pleasure backgrounds as well as those who have competed successfully at high HRCAV levels.

Intermediate: The Intermediate Group is made up of our top level riders, as at yet we do not have an Advanced group due to numbers. These riders are from HRCAV levels 3, 2, 1 and 1 Advanced. With higher movements in Dressage worked on, higher levels in jumping reached and masterclasses with some outstanding instructors on the horizon, we feel very positive about our wonderful group of riders in Intermediate. Again from a varied background, there are many different opportunities for these riders to progress, learn and grow with the club.

Competition

Although not a club dominated by the desire to compete, we are hoping to field a team or two to all Top Teams Trophy Events. We are also hoping to host a few events at our wonderful grounds. Information on these events and competitions can be found on our Calender page.
